scenery among the national parks of Japan. There are lots of tourist
spots, where you can enjoy marvelous views and beautiful flowers.

Rebunatsumoriso,
which is a symbol of Rebun Island and designated as a special
natural treasure of Hokkaido, grow in colonies. It used to
exist everywhere in the island. However, it has often been
stolen because it is rare and beautiful. As a result, the
number of the flowers has dropped to 3,000. The Rebunatsumoriso’s
natural habitats are surrounded with conservation fences.
Rebunatsumoriso is at its best between the end of May and
the beginning of June. |

Lake
Kusyu is a single lake of Rebun Island and the northernmost
lake of Japan. The marshes stretch over the shore on the south.
There is the esplanade four kilometers in circumference so
that you can see aquatic plants. Also you can see a heavy
growth of skunk cabbage close to the esplanade. Moreover,
Rebun Island is known as a relay point for migratory birds
and around the esplanade is a popular bird watching spot.
There are cottages, cabins and auto campsites on the shore. |

You
can be satisfied with serene blue sea from Cape Sukai. The
color of the sea changes to various colors such as light green
and emerald green according to the depth of water and the
course of sunlight. The water is so clear that you can see
stones at the bottom of the sea quite distinctly. In summer
the inlet is blooming with a lot of lovely flowers and you
can thoroughly enjoy the beauty of nature. |

This
monument was erected at the place where 1,500 Japanese and
American scientists collaborated to observe solar eclipse
as a Japanese historical project on 9 May 1948. This event
went down in history all over the world, and since then, Rebun
Island has been internationally known for astronomical science |

There
are lots of materials about alpine plants ranging over Rebun
Island. Flower picture book in a computer enables you to study
250 classes of flowers. Gained information about the plants
will be useful to enjoy trekking much better.
It is open between June and October. Please notice that it
is closed on Saturday, Sunday and national holidays in September
and October.

This woodland path connects Kafuka and Kafukai. It is a popular
tourist route for trekking. You can see various flowers beside
the path and a fine view of Rebun Island. Rebunusuyukiso grow
in colonies there and you can enjoy a fantastic view. In addition,
this path leads to Rebun Falls Route and Uennai Route which
are famous for beautiful flowers. |

Two
large rocks stand in Motochi Beach, which is in the south
of Rebun Island, and you can see the beautiful setting sun.
They were named after a stone image of Jizo. They look as
if Jizo, a guardian deity of children, joins its hands together.
It is a splendid view that the sun sets between the two large
rocks which are 50 meters in height. They are said to be a
divine grace for learning and marriage. |

This
is a height from which you can see two huge rocks called Momo
Iwa (Momo Rock) and Neko Iwa (Neko Rock) at once. You can
see wonderful nature of blue the Sea of Japan, rare rocks
and innumerable flowers. A huge rock, which is 25 meters in
height and stands in the offing of Motochi Beach, is Neko
(Cat) Rock. It looks as if a cat humps its back. |

This
observatory enables you to see Momo Rock, which is 250 meters
in height. Also you may be able to see Mt. Rishiri Fuji. It
takes about five minutes from parking area to the observatory.
The esplanade is narrow and has a sharp slant, so please be
careful.
There is a heavy growth of alpine plants around Momo Rock,
which are designated as special natural treasure of Hokkaido.
About 300 kinds of flowers are in bloom. “Momo Iwa Hodo (Walk)”
from the observatory to Motochi Todai (Lighthouse) is sometimes
called “Rebun Flower Road” and you can enjoy a dream of a
walk. It takes about 90 minutes.

This
museum was built to take over records of reclamation and history
of islander’s predecessors. You can learn the history of Rebun
Island through diorama, relics and artifacts. And video library
shows the four seasons of the island. Also fishing implements
and daily necessities are exhibited there.
